 Addis Ababa City Administration Floats New Tender for Land Lease  

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, February 20, 2009 (Ezega.com) - Addis Ababa City administration has floated tender for land lease in three sub-cities in Addis Ababa. In the first round, the administration will avail land in Bole, Yeka, and Akaki sub-cities. Ezega.com has also learned that the city is planning to offer land for lease in seven other sub-cities in Addis Ababa shortly. The land being offered is meant for various purposes, including residences, businesses, mixed-use, industries, and apartment development. Tender documents are available from February16 to 25, 2009, from respective sub-city offices. Applicants must be Ethiopian citizens or people with Ethiopian origin (Yellow ID Card holders).

Ato Mulatu Gebre, Head of License and Land Administration Process, said “Addis Ababa City Land Administration will start providing full information on its activities on its website which will be launched in about one month. The Administration believes that such access to information will ease some of the problems our clients have been facing for some time. This will especially help people living abroad so that they can invest and/or return to their homeland.”

According to administration schedule, the following sites are ready for public tender in the three sub-cities in Addis Ababa.

  1. Bole Sub-City: 22 spots are available for residences covering 7,600 m2 area; 15 places are available for business purposes over 11,739 m2 area; 14 spots are available for mixed-use purposes over 5,500 m2 area; and 3 places are available for apartment development over 621 m2 area.
  2. Akaki Sub-City: 21 places are available for residences in 4987 m2 area; and 5 spots are available for industry on 17,906.5 m2 area.
  3. Yeka Sub-City: 38 spots are available for residences over 8,454 m2 area; and 14 spots are available for business purposes over 14,360 m2 area.
