Americans-love-gunsAmerica is the land of opportunity, diversity, acceptance, freedom, and fun. While moving forward with numerous strengths and powers, Americans are a little weird too. Here I have compiled a few strange habits or obsessions of Americans that will definitely interest you. Let's check out what are the weird things Americans are obsessed with.

•    Americans love Plump Lips

Beauty standards vary all around the globe, but Americans influence the global fashion industry with their approach to beauty. Americans' obsession with plump (as the youngsters say, juicy lips) is increasing tremendously.

Anthropologists say that fuller or plump lips not only depict the enticing sexuality of a female body, but they also signal sensuality and excitement for physical intimacy. Moreover, social studies have shown that in some African tribes not only the higher hip-to-waist ratio is the symbol of attraction and beauty of a woman but fuller, bigger, and plump lips also add into the beauty of a woman.

These days, you will see on the media that most of the showbiz celebrities, YouTubers, famous personalities, and also the common girls on the American TV channels, and magazines appear with plump lips. American girls either follow specific makeup techniques to achieve this look or go for cosmetic surgeries. Plastic surgeries have become very common in America, especially after A-list celebrities have gone through this procedure. Nonetheless, if you love to follow any ongoing fashion in America, then you can easily learn various makeup techniques online and flaunt your gorgeous beauty.

•    Fake Tanning

Americans are obsessed with tan skin tone, and they have developed a number of procedures to get fake tan skin. They love to take sunbath on the beach while enjoying summer vacations. However, natural tan takes a lot of time and effort, so most of the Americans go for artificial tanning procedures. Spray tanning is one of the most hyped and highly recommended tanning procedures among Americans.

There are numerous places all over the country providing this facility. And the most interesting thing is that there are different levels of tanning, meaning you can go as darker as you want. Other than spray tanning, both boys and girls are in love with the bronzer. Bronzer is the makeup product that is specifically created to give sun-kissed tan to your skin.
All the hi-end and drugstore brands have launched a number of bronzer shades. You can choose the perfect one, depending on your skin tone. Interestingly, the dark bronzing or tanning become a major American obsession after Kardashians hit the screens. Their facial and body makeup appeared really different than the normal.

And people become crazy about different bronzing products and techniques. Overall, Americans have long been in love with tan skin that is darker than their natural skin tone. This is among really pretty weird things Americans are obsessed with, and I'm guilty of liking it as well.

•    Crazy for Peanut Butter

Peanut butter is definitely one of the yummiest weird things Americans are obsessed with and cannot live without. Americans love licking peanut butter once in a while every day, and for many this is the must-have item at the breakfast table. Shaun King described his obsession with peanut butter, saying, "I like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. In a dream world, the bread is super soft, like the Wonder Bread of my childhood, and the sandwich will have crunchy peanut butter, strawberry jam, and a cup of cold milk to go with it."

Loving peanut butter is so American thing, and other nationals don't understand it. Ana Navarro once told, "People say to me all the time, 'When did you know that you had fully become an American?' And I say, 'The day I realized I loved peanut butter.'"

Well, this obsession is factual as according to the stats generated by the National Peanut Board the amount of peanut butter an American eats in a single year is enough to coat the whole floor of the Grand Canyon.

•    A Touch or Two of Cosmetic Surgery is Okay!

It may seem that Americans are obsessed with skinny figure and perfectly toned body. But, in reality, they love curves. Cosmetic surgery has become norm in America, especially for teenagers. They love big boobs and big butts. To be honest love is a short word to describe their massive heartiest obsession with big breasts and butts. Other than that, Americans are obsessed with retouching their facial features as well. Facial surgery includes an enhancement of cheekbone, beautifying jawline, changing nose shape a little, and surely enhancing lips. Cosmetic surgery has progressed extraordinarily in past few years. But apart from success stories, there are disastrous failures of cosmetic surgery as well.

•    Ketchup can Never be Enough

Americans do not eat fries with ketchup but loads of ketchup with fries. There is no limit to the food items on which Americans can put ketchup on. The stunningly gorgeous Scarlett Johansson shared her love for fast food and ketchup saying, "I still eat a burger at a counter with ketchup dripping down my face."

Fries surely takes the cake, but surely not the only food item to enjoy ketchup with. American eats ketchup on boiled eggs, fried eggs, grilled chicken, baked pasta, mac n cheese, grilled cheese, fried chicken, rice, and whatnot. Surely, it may seem weird to many people, but ketchup is a big hit in America.

•    Bagels are Big Love

Americans love to enjoy yummy bagels every now and then. Every American, no matter in which part of the country he/ she is living or what ethnicity he/ she belongs to, must be obsessed with this yummy food, for sure.

Beeban Kidron said, "I've liked being Jewish in America - there's a secular version of Jewishness there that's more about bagels and jokes than going to synagogues." You will see that everyone in America, famous or not shares this love. Jill Soloway, American comedian also shared his love for bagels with his usual routine saying casually, "On Sunday morning, it's Brooklyn Bagels on Beverly Boulevard. We get them hot. Then we walk some of the famous Silver Lake steps or hike in the hills to the highest vantage point to see the reservoir."

•    College Education is a Must

Surely not weird rather immensely inspirational, American kids have to have a college education. Undoubtedly, with the passage of time higher education is becoming more and more common in different countries especially in South Korea, Japan, and others.
But Americans have quite high standards for themselves when it comes to getting good quality education from some prestigious institutions. American kids cannot pass out from high schools unless they hear this question numerous times from almost all of the people around, "Which college are you attending after passing out?" Well, not only the parents but kids too care a lot about the subject they are going to study, and the institution as well.

•    All Kinds of Loans Haunt Every American All their Life

In connection with the previous point I've mentioned, education is not free in America, and almost every student is under high student loans. Approximately total student debt in America is more than 1 trillion USD. This is one of the most terrible problems of America that despite being a strong economy of the world, is unable to provide the basic necessities of life to its people for free.

American politician Sherrod Brown has perfectly explained the problem with the education system of America saying,  "American tax dollars spent on education are meant to support students, not support aggressive, deceptive, and misleading marketing campaigns by certain for-profit education companies."

Talking about basic necessities, the loan is not only for getting an education; rather America offers a terribly expensive health system as well.

Their hospital bills are ridiculously expensive. Though the hospitals are well-equipped with state of the art technology, hi-end machinery, and all the much-needed facilities, the expense a patient or the loved ones had to pay is enormous.

Andrew Dominik said what every American thinks, "To me, regardless of who's in office, the government is strangled by the business. And the government's priorities are dictated by business. I mean, why does America, even after healthcare reform, still not have free universal healthcare? I'm sure it has something to do with the insurance lobby."

Moreover, it is more or less impossible to cover all such expenses through insurance. After healthcare, let's talk about the house loan. Well, house loans follow the same story as well. Any type of property is super expensive that it is impossible for a working couple to pay for an apartment. So, having all kinds of loans is one of the saddest weird things Americans are obsessed with.

•    Almost Every Household Carry Gun

You definitely be hearing about the protests in America about enforcing gun control acts/ reforms in recent years. To be honest, the problem lies within the roots of America. Americans own more guns than cars. And with the recent mass shooting incidents in America, people are now scared of going out, especially sending their kids to schools.

Canadian comedian Scott Thompson said in a lighter note, "In Canadian comedy, you'll almost never see guns. If you bring a gun into a scene, it's like, 'Whoa! Wow, how are we going to deal with that!' Guns in an American comedy are a given. Violence in America is used in a much more cavalier way." Laughable but sadly very true.

Americans own about 270 million guns, and you cannot put the finger on them because the ownership of guns is legal there. There is an immediate need for amending gun control laws so that there must be some rules and regulations or some sort of check and balance on the owners of the guns. This is very important to know the mental condition, and extremist views of the people to safeguard American society. However, it is definitely a very weird situation now in America regarding gun ownership.

•    Tipping is Necessary

It is considered extremely rude in America if you forget about tipping. This is not optional but an obligation that every American must fulfill. At the restaurant, generally a 15 to 20% tip is given. But tipping is not only limited to eateries, rather wherever someone is providing you services deserves tip. This includes employees loading or unloading your suitcases at the airport, drivers, etc.

English musician Ian Gillan finds it annoying. He said, " I hate it in America where the protocol seems to be you are expected to tip regardless of the quality of service. I like to tip when it's not being demanded of me, and if the service has been good, I tip quite generously." Well, that's a different point of view.

It may seem wired to some, but this is something all the nations must copy from Americans. These are the small gestures that enhance respect for all the professions.
There is Always Something Fun on the Television

Paul Erdos ruthlessly told the truth that "Television is something the Russians invented to destroy American education."

Americans love watching television, and there is always something interesting to watch for everybody on any channel. America's entertainment industry, both television and film are thriving tremendously well.

The love of Americans for TV has created numerous high quality shows airing from big media houses. Every slot in a day is filled with particular stuff. Laurance J. Peter said, "Television has changed the American child from an irresistible force to an immovable object."

The air game shows, talk shows, late-night shows, news channels, dramas, and what not. The diversity in TV programs and channels is mind-boggling. Housewives especially love day time talk shows, and people love to have a glimpse of what going on in the news before leaving home for work in the morning. Every American has something special planned to watch on TV when having dinner. This is a ritual or a personal/ national habit that every American follow with all their heart. As Paul Weyrich said, "Television is now the dominant factor in the lives of too many American children."

•    No Compromise on Customer Services

This is one of the weird things Americans are obsessed with that every nation must follow. No matter if it is a small place or a big name, American customer service is excellent, and that is the main reason for mandatory tipping. Talking about restaurants, in particular, the waiters of the decently reputed restaurants will come in every few minutes to ask if you need anything else or to know if you are satisfied with the food quality.

Apart from eateries, Americans require exceptional customer services, and the companies are obliged to provide it. This is important because customers have loads of rights as they are spending their money on a product.

Moreover, it is also extremely important that all the companies write all the ingredients used in manufacturing the product thus to ensure the safety of the customers, and who can or can't use this product. All this comes in good customer services, and Americans are obsessed with it.

•    Fast People Fast Food

American journalist Eric Schlosser said, "Like Hollywood movies, MTV and blue jeans, fast food has become one of America's major cultural exports."

Fast food is the specialty of American culture, and Americans have made fast food famous all around the globe, and now almost every country is enjoying its customized form of fast food. If you are a fast-food lover yourself then you may not consider one of the weird things Americans are obsessed with. However, all other cultures have some traditional cuisines of their own, but America is famous for its signature pizza, burgers, fries, and fried chicken.

There are a number of fast-food chains running super successfully in America. And with the presence of enormous competition, you will find high-quality food at reasonable price at every nook and corner of this amazing country. Well, all the taste of fast food is there, but it comes with the price of your health. American journalist Eric Schlosser said, Fast food is popular because it's convenient, it's cheap, and it tastes good. But the real cost of eating fast food never appears on the menu."

Other than fast-food chains with big names, Americans love the concept of food trucks. Food trucks are a hit there in America serving all kinds of cuisines. These food trucks do tremendous business outside office parking lots, as the workaholic Americans like to grab a bite at lunch from someplace close. Moreover, food trucks do amazing business at musical nights and music concerts as well. Overall, no matter wherever you are in America, you will grab some delicious fast food near you.

•    Alcohol and Solo Cups

One of the weird things Americans are obsessed with is their undying and unbending love for alcohol. Apart from office meetings and school/ college rooms in the morning, there is no place Americans cannot have a sip of alcohol. American writer beautifully described what alcohol is to a man saying, "Alcohol is like love. The first kiss is magic, and the second is intimate; the third is routine. After that you take the girl's clothes off". And in the parties serving alcohol, solo cups are necessary. Americans are obsessed with cups, and every college student has played the "flip the cup" game once in their college life. Now I'm not sure why, but Americans prefer red cups over blue cups. Nonetheless, both blue and red are America's flag colors, so both are pretty special. So if you are planning any time sooner to visit America and haven't had drink in these cups, do try on.

•    Fun Drinking Games

In connection with the Americans' obsession with alcohol, they also love having fun and play different games when enjoying drinks with friends. There is an enormous range of drinking games that American teens love to play. Nobuo Uematsu has to say some really cool things about his experience with meeting American people and their fun weirdness. He said, "I think that American people really know how to pursue fun; they really know how to have a good time. Japanese are somewhat more reserved than Americans, so I'm jealous." And they show it all during a fun drinking game.

Some of the drinking games include King's Cup, Flip Cup, Horse Races, Quarters, Chandelier, Beer Pong, Asshole, Edward 40 hands, Ride the Bus,  Twenty One, and many others. There is a long list of the fun drinking games that Americans love to play. Famous American TV show host Conan O’Brien  said “Scientists announced that they have located the gene for alcoholism. Scientists say they found it at a party, talking way too loudly." Drinking is another name of having fun in America.

•     American Type of Bacon

Bacon is America's specialty. This is one of those food items that Americans find a little low quality when they are visiting any other country. Americans write the lack of good bacon in other countries as a con. And this is because they know everything about bacon so amazingly well that they can't imagine anything less than that. You must be amazed knowing that America holds a Bacon championship in which participants make all types of American bacon.

•    Americans and their America

Last but not least for sure, Americans LOVE their country. Americans are proud of being Americans, and they love every bit of their country. You will see people on the streets flaunting their obsession with their country in one or the other way. Surely, they are fully aware of America's shortcomings but which country is pure and flawless? Americans are obsessed with their nationality and show it off everywhere they be.

There you go! Tell us in the comments below among these weird things Americans are obsessed with what do you think is the weirdest of all! And also what things you'd like to adopt yourself.
