How to Get Interviews:

Many job seekers in Ethiopia get frustrated because they apply to many places, but never get called for interviews. This is happening to many job seekers applying for various jobs in Ethiopia through job portals such Ezega Jobs, EmployEthiopia, EthioJobs, Mjobs, etc. In many cases, the reasons are simple and common.

Regardless of whether you are applying from mjobs or employethiopia or any other, the hiring manager normally gets many resumes to review. The number one question in the mind of the hiring manager is who among the many applicants can best handle the job at hand. The only way to tell prior to interviews is through resumes and cover letters. The hiring manager would normally look for someone who has done something similar or at least one who showed interest in the work being advertised. If your cover letter so generic (the same for all jobs), you will be talking about something else not related to the job you are applying - which means, in the eye of the hiring manager, you are not suitable for the job you are applying. So, it is extremely important that you edit the cover letter for each job you are applying to show interest in the job, and to mention something related that you have done or studied in the past. The main point is that you are conveying a message to the hiring manager that you understand what the job needs and you have done or studied something related to the job you are applying.

You may also edit you resume for each job you are applying to highlight any study or work you have done that is a requirement for the job. That way the hiring manager doesn't have to look hard to find it. Remember, hiring managers barely have a few minutes to spend on each job application. So, putting up front or highlighting the relevant skills or knowledge you have increases your chance of getting called for interview.

Also, please answer any questions the hiring manager is asking in the vacancy announcement. If it was asked that you must have certain computer skills, please state that in your cover letter and resume. If the vacancy post asks to state your typing speed in words per minute, you should state that in your cover letter. That will be greatly appreciated by the hiring manager for any jobs here, ethiojobs net or mjobs. If you ignore any requests or questions like these that the job post requests, it means you are not giving any attention to details of the job application requirements, and the chances of you getting called for interview becomes very low.

Finally, please send only what is asked in the vacancy announcement. If the job post asks you to send only cover letter and resume, just send the cover letter and resume - not all documents you have.

Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation Ethiopia is implementing a consortum project entitled “Improving Access to Education in Ethiopia for Most Marginalized Girls (CHANGE project)”. The project is implemented by People In Need (PIN) with CIAI – Italian Center for Help to Children, Concern Worldwide (CWW), Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation and Gayo Pastoral Development Initiative (GPDI), Welthungerhilfe (WHH) and Friendship Support Association (FSA). The project is funded by Department for International Development (DFID), UK. The main objective of the project is to improve life chances of Out of school (OOS) highly marginalised girls in the above stated project areas.
Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation Ethiopia that implements the project jointly with Gayo in Borena Zone of Oromia region, is seeking to hire data manager for short-term beneficiaries screening assignment to be undertaken in selected project kebeles in Borena Zone, Oromia region.

Objective of the baseline study/ beneficiaries’ screening:
Projects and/or their selected external evaluators will have to undertake a beneficiary identification process to find the girls who fit their definition of direct beneficiaries before interventions begin. This will likely involve identifying girls through community engagement exercises and then screening them with a simple questionnaire, disability assessment and/or literacy and numeracy test to establish eligibility. Baseline study’s aim is to screen all identified beneficiaries with above mentioned tools in order to create database of eligible target groups for the first phases of the project’s intervention.
Overall task of the consultant/ data collection manager will be to undertake baseline assessment/ beneficiaries’ screening with following sub-tasks:
• Revise drafted tools and develop inception report
• Provide training to data collectors and conduct piloting the tools
• Coordinate data collection process
• Data encoding, cleaning, management and analysis organized and processed (if necessary)
• Develop community assessment report
• Integration of results to M&E processes

Baseline/ screening tools:
Identified beneficiaries will be screened with a simple questionnaire, disability assessment and/or literacy and numeracy test to establish eligibility status. The tools will be developed by project team in cooperation with external evaluator. The consultant/data collection manager can be asked to review the drafted tools.

Data collection & management:
The data collection will be undetaken electronically; the tools will be developed for the universal software such as Kobotoolbox or Dewco for household survey and disability assessment, probably in combination with Tangerine for literacy/numeracy tests.
The data will be collected through electronic devices and managed through Dewco management and reporting system operated by one of the project’s organization.

Target groups description:
• Dropped out, 10-19y.– girls who were enrolled at the start of school year but didn’t conduct mid-term (first semester) exam
• Never been to school, 10-19y.– girls’ who haven’t started formal education, not enrolled in formal education, have no formal education
• At risk of OOS, 10-19 y.– girls enrolled, but currently not attending school (for 5 consecutive days)
• At risk of OOS, 6-9y. – sisters of dropped out girls/ sisters of never been to school girls/ sisters of girls not attending at age 6-9 y.
• At risk of OOS, 10-19y.– girls enrolled/attending with any disability
• At risk of OOS,10-19y. – girls enrolled/attending and married

Expected Deliverables:
• Revised data collection tools and inception report
• Data collectors trained, data collection tools pre-test completed
• Data collection plan developed and followed
• Data cleaning, management and analytical processes’ support
• Final assessment report
• Integration of results to M&E processes
Expected Timeframe
• Inception period – tools revision & inception overview – May 24, 2019
• Data collectors training and tools piloting – May 31, 2019
• Data collection finalized – June 30, 2019
• Final report developed and M&E results integrated – July 30, 2019
