How to Get Interviews:

Many job seekers in Ethiopia get frustrated because they apply to many places, but never get called for interviews. This is happening to many job seekers applying for various jobs in Ethiopia through job portals such Ezega Jobs, EmployEthiopia, EthioJobs, Mjobs, etc. In many cases, the reasons are simple and common.

Regardless of whether you are applying from mjobs or employethiopia or any other, the hiring manager normally gets many resumes to review. The number one question in the mind of the hiring manager is who among the many applicants can best handle the job at hand. The only way to tell prior to interviews is through resumes and cover letters. The hiring manager would normally look for someone who has done something similar or at least one who showed interest in the work being advertised. If your cover letter so generic (the same for all jobs), you will be talking about something else not related to the job you are applying - which means, in the eye of the hiring manager, you are not suitable for the job you are applying. So, it is extremely important that you edit the cover letter for each job you are applying to show interest in the job, and to mention something related that you have done or studied in the past. The main point is that you are conveying a message to the hiring manager that you understand what the job needs and you have done or studied something related to the job you are applying.

You may also edit you resume for each job you are applying to highlight any study or work you have done that is a requirement for the job. Mary Joy Development Association is a nonprofit development-oriented organization serves the community for the past 25+ years dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable communities by advancing and implementing integrated development program focuses on livelihood enhancement, education and health with cross-cutting issues of children empowerment, environmental protection, Adolescent and Youth Sexual Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS and inclusiveness. For the USAID funded project focusing on HIV epidemic control for orphan and vulnerable children service in SNNPRS, Mary Joy seeks to recruit a Finance office to be based in Addis Ababa.

Position Description
The Finance office will be responsible for overseeing the grants management of the USAID Caring for Vulnerable Children project in Ethiopia. The finance officer Assists with the administration and the management of awards and sub-awards. S/he will develop and implement sub-award management systems and monitor MJDA’ and USAID’s compliance with award terms and conditions and MJDA’s and USAID’s policy.

• Work with the Finance Team to ensure that all financial transactions are correctly administered and that all vouchers and grants are processed in a timely and efficient manner
• Prepares monthly reports, reviews the report against budget and report variance
• Participates in budget preparation and consolidates accounts for the secretariat according to the project plan in collaboration with other departments of the Organization;
• Manages the day to day recording, and analyzing of financial transactions of awards and sub Awards
• prepare and Send VAT Return
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and reconcile on system Provide technical support
• Ensures tax and other liabilities are paid out to the relevant authorities on time;
• Process or Send Direct Transfers.

V. Other
• Contribute to collecting and submitting the monitoring and evaluation data as required and communicate to subgrantees.
• Participating in trainings, workshops, and conferences, as requested.
• Any other tasks assigned as necessary.
• Assist and Respond to general inquiries from implementing partners.
• Assist an internal audit of sub-grantees together with finance and technical teams.

Minimum Requirements:
• BA in Accounting or related
• Minimum of 3-5 of experience in contracts and grants administration.
• Experience in coordinating issuing of sub-awards, consultancies, and other contractual arrangements.
• Working knowledge of award management and sub-award requirements of USAID and other donors, requirements
• Ability to work well with others to develop and maintain compatibility among project staff, consultants, recipients of assistance and local NGO and CBO partners.
• Excellent communication skills in Amharic and English; and additional regional language is a plus.
