How to Get Interviews:

Many job seekers in Ethiopia get frustrated because they apply to many places, but never get called for interviews. This is happening to many job seekers applying for various jobs in Ethiopia through job portals such Ezega Jobs, EmployEthiopia, EthioJobs, Mjobs, etc. In many cases, the reasons are simple and common.

Regardless of whether you are applying from mjobs or employethiopia or any other, the hiring manager normally gets many resumes to review. The number one question in the mind of the hiring manager is who among the many applicants can best handle the job at hand. The only way to tell prior to interviews is through resumes and cover letters. The hiring manager would normally look for someone who has done something similar or at least one who showed interest in the work being advertised. If your cover letter so generic (the same for all jobs), you will be talking about something else not related to the job you are applying - which means, in the eye of the hiring manager, you are not suitable for the job you are applying. So, it is extremely important that you edit the cover letter for each job you are applying to show interest in the job, and to mention something related that you have done or studied in the past. The main point is that you are conveying a message to the hiring manager that you understand what the job needs and you have done or studied something related to the job you are applying.

You may also edit you resume for each job you are applying to highlight any study or work you have done that is a requirement for the job. That way the hiring manager doesn't have to look hard to find it. Remember, hiring managers barely have a few minutes to spend on each job application. Position: Director, Soil Health and Fertility

• Serve as the leader of the Soil Health and Fertility Program, assuming overall responsibility for the direction and management of the program and projects under it and mobilizing needed financial, human or organizational resources for program execution
• Serve as a thought leader in the area of soil health and fertility Ethiopia, participating substantively in conferences (both international and domestic) and supporting planning of Transformation Agenda Deliverables for the sub-sector. Help the creation and delivery of strategies and programs to achieve ATA’s overall goal and mission for agricultural transformation in Ethiopia
• Provide high quality, results-focused stakeholder management, and build a genuinely collaborative engagement with key Federal, Regional, Private Sector, Non-Profit and Bilateral partners in the delivery of priority sector objectives
• Working with key soils stakeholders across both public and non-public sectors, lead the development and implementation of diagnostic activities, strategies, policies, and solution design by the Soil Health and Fertility Knowledge Center.
• Provide guidance, high caliber technical support and oversee design and/or implementation of ATA implemented projects in the soils sub-sector.
• Manage talent development of existing staff, hire new staff as necessary and manage team dynamics of the Soil Health and Fertility Program team to ensure a high-performance team
• Ensure that the Soil Health and Fertility program team provides enough Ning of soils related activities within the ACC Initiative
• Provide technical and operational support in the execution of the ACC Initiative, with a focus on soil health and fertility issues
• Prepare and manage the Program’s budget; obtain approvals from senior level ATA management and monitor budget utilization against allocation
• Contribute to the development of an institutionalized knowledge base for the ATA
• Regularly report to the Senior Director of Crops and NRM, and to the CEO on progress, challenges and constraints of the program team activities.
• Undertake any additional assignments as requested by the Senior Director of Crops and NRM or the CEO.

• Deep understanding of Ethiopia’s agricultural system, with a broad perspective on how the entire system operates and how public, private and informal actors operate within the system.
• Experience in prioritizing and sequencing both programmatic and operational activities.
• Experience in creating partnerships at the national level and (preferably) at international level
• Demonstrable track record of success with program design, performance management, learning systems and monitoring & evaluation.
• Practical experience in piloting and scaling up relevant solutions at the local level.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-moving, start-up environment, with an emphasis on high-performance, teamwork, accountability and results.
• Ability to build relationships with all kinds of people and working in a multi-cultural environment
