"We had planned to stay ahead of the pack but it seems the Ethiopians were stronger than us," said Kibiwott, a Kenyan athlete who won the bronze medal .

June 21, 2017 - Ethiopia national team midfielder Gatoch Panom has moved to Russian side Anzhi Makhackala on a three-year contract, having successfully exhausted his former deal with EPL side Ethiopia Coffee.
22-year-old flew to Moscow on Wednesday last week for trials with the Anzhi and now has passed his medicals without a problem.

April 24, 2017 - Kenya's Mary Keitany broke world record to win the London Marathon on Sunday, while her compatriot Daniel Wanjiru also seized glory over the 26.2-mile distance, according to reports.
Keitany finished in two hours, 17 minutes and one second, dominating the rest of the field. Ethiopia's Tirunesh Dibaba and Aselefech Mergia came in second and third, respectively.

March 8, 2017 - Ethiopia is finalizing preparations to host the 39th ordinary general assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), according to ENA.
The event is "historic and unique" for Ethiopia that is going to host the CAF General Assembly after 51 years, Juneidin Basha President of the Federation told ENA.
Holding the meeting in Ethiopia, the founding member of CAF, is appropriate, as it coincides with the 60th founding anniversary of CAF, he said.

March 6, 2017 - More than 90,000 residents of Addis Ababa display their support to the GERD project by taking part in the Grand Renaissance Dam running race held Sunday in the capital, according to ENA.

February 12, 2017 - Melaku Belachew smashed the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon race record to win the IAAF Gold Label Road Race on Sunday (12).
The 27-year-old took more than two minutes from his PB to win in 2:10:31, improving the race record by 56 seconds. Compatriot Gulume Tollesa made it an Ethiopian double, winning the women’s race in 2:33:39.

January 20, 2017 - Tamirat Tola of Ethiopia won the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon with a timing of 2:04:11sec in the men’s race while Worknesh Degefa Debele, also from Ethiopia finished first in the women’s race with a timing of 2:22:36sec.
Tola recorded a Dubai Marathon course record in the process, beating Ayele Abshero of Ethiopia’s timing of 2:04:23, which was set in the 2012 Dubai Marathon edition.

January 02, 2017 - The body of the late Miruts Yifter, Ethiopia's running legend was laid to rest at the Holy Trinity Cathedral on Sunday, reports ENA.
Senior government officials, athletes, the public and other guests were present at the burial ceremony of Miruts who was dubbed "Yifter the Shifter"for his unique distance running quality.
Mirutse won his first bronze in 10,000 meters at the Munich Olympics in 1972.

December 23, 2016 - The IAAF is saddened by the news that Miruts Yifter, a double Olympic champion for Ethiopia at the 1980 Olympic Games, died yesterday (22) in Toronto, Canada, after being hospitalised for respiratory ailments. Yifter, considered by many as one of the greatest middle distance runners of all-time, was 72.
Yifter's crowning achievement was his 5,000 and 10,000m double triumph at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow at age 40, where he earned the nickname "Yifter the Shifter" for the rapid injections of speed that helped propel him to victory. In both contests, Yifter surged and slowed to confuse his key opponents. The tactic worked.
