| Ethiopia Football Federation Orders all Soccer Clubs to Build Stadiums
October 18, 2018 - In an unprecedented move, the Ethiopian Football Federation has enacted a regulation that obliges all Ethiopian soccer clubs in the premier and super leagues to construct standardized stadiums within two years, according to ANA.
All the soccer clubs in the country do not have their own stadiums. Tedla Dagnachew, Licensing Manager of the Federation said that the clubs need to have their own stadiums, since having standard stadium is among the criteria set by FIFA.
According to him, clubs that would not fulfill the standard could be relegated to the lower division.

September 3, 2017 - Ethiopian cyclist Tsgabu Grmay has joined Trek for 2018, the American team announced on Monday. The 26-year-old, the African time-trial champion two years ago, joins the American team from Bahrain. Grmay, the reigning time trial champion in Ethiopia, got his start with MTN-Qhubeka in 2012 and spent three seasons with the team before jumping to the WorldTour with Lampre-Merida. After two years there, he joined Bahrain-Merida for 2017. A three-time time trial champion and two-time road race champion in Ethiopia, he finished fifth overall at Februarys Tour of Oman.

October 1, 2017 - The Botswana national team beat the Waliyas 2-0 in Independence Day friendly game. The friendly tie was organized by the government of Botswana in celebration of the 51st year anniversary of the Southern Africa nation independence from British rule.
Veteran striker Jerome Ramatlhakwane scored in each half as Botswana secured a 2-0 win over Ethiopia. August 10, 2017 - After decades of absence, Ethiopia expressed interest in hosting the African cup of nations in the near future. During a discussion between CAF officials and Ethiopian Prime Minster Hailemariam Desalegn, the prime minster affirmed Ethiopia’s interest to host the continental football event.

August 8, 2017 - Ethiopian Women’s U-17 (the Lucy) team will face either Nigeria or Kenya in the first round of the 2018 FIFA U-17 World Cup which will be held in Uruguay, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Monday.

| Ethiopian Athlete Punches Coach for Not Being Selected for Championship
July 29, 2017 - Ethiopian Police are searching for an athlete who punched and injured his Coach’s eye after learning that he was not selected for the London world championship. The Athlete, Chala Beyo, ran for Ethiopia in the 3,000 meters steeplechase at last year’s Olympics. He didn’t qualify for the finals this time.
Commenting on the case, Sileshi Bisrat, Ethiopian Athletics Federation spokesman says the 21-year-old steeplechase runner, punched coach Yohannes Mohammed when the team was announced.
The coach needed medical treatment for an injured left eye, and Sileshi says police are searching for the runner.

July 26, 2017 - The Ethiopian Athletics Federation (EAF) announced a 40-member team that will represent the country at the 16th edition of the IAAF World Championships scheduled to take place next month in London, UK, according to FBC report.
The long-distance runner and current world and Olympic records holder in both 5,000m and 10,000m events, Kenenisa Bekele, excluded himself from the selection due to current form.
“I’m not fit enough to compete at the event,” Kenenisa was quoted by the EAF as saying.

July 16, 2017 - Ethiopian athletes, Nberet Melesa and Bodena Toles won the World Under-18 Championships 800m distance run held in Kenya, coming in first and second, respectively. "We had planned to stay ahead of the pack but it seems the Ethiopians were stronger than us," said Kibiwott, a Kenyan athlete who won the bronze medal .
Kenya failed to secure any victory on the penultimate day of the championships on Saturday, winning one silver and three bronze medals. Dominic Samson started the day with the historic bronze medal in the boys' 10,000m race walk as Mpoke Moitalel went for boys' 400m hurdles silver.
