Rate of Electrification in Africa

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia May 11, 2009 (Ezega.com) -- The following table shows the rate of electrification in some select African countries, as per 2007/2008 Human Development Report from UNDP. This is assuming that the most electrified countries in the world getting 100 and the least electrified ones getting 0. Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt top the list, rated almost as good as some of the most developed countries in the world. Ethiopia is rated 15 and is towards the bottom of the list. It may be worse now that even the supposedly electrified cities are going through power rationing.

Also shown in the table is HDI Rank (Human Development Index Rank). This index shows how effective a country is in using its material and human resources for the betterment of its people. It consider many socio-economic, political and environmental factors to rank countries in the world from first to last. The lower the HDI is the worse the country is for its people.
