Religious Leaders Ask Ethiopians to Reflect on Peace and Development
January 6, 2017 - Ethiopian Christian Fathers urged their followers today to celebrate Christmas by reflecting on peace and development, according to ENA.
The Fathers of the various Christian denominations have extended their Christmas wishes to followers that celebrate the holiday tomorrow.
Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, Abune Matias said the purpose of His incarnation is to bring peace and harmony.
The faithful should thus celebrate Christmas by reconciling people, supporting the weak and consulting one another, he added.
“Christ was born to abolish discord and hatred and replace lasting peace and unity the in minds of humankind. We must therefore realize these and translate them into deeds,” the Patriarch stressed.
Ethiopian Catholic Church Archbishop, Cardinal Birhaneyesus Surafel said Christians should celebrate the holiday by supporting the needy and sharing what they have.
As followers of Christianity that expect the government to bring good governance and justice through the deep reform, Christians should in return extend support for the realization of those, he noted.
Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus President, Pastor Doctor Waq Seyoum Edosa said followers should uphold peace, harmony and coexistence, values propounded with the birth of Jesus Christ.
“While celebrating Christmas, we should contribute our share for the growth and prosperity of the country and meet our obligations as citizens,” the president underscored. (ENA)
