Conference on Peace and Development Opens in Addis Ababa
January 11, 2017 - A national consultative forum aimed at deliberating on peace and development kicked off here in Addis Ababa yesterday, according to FBC.
Organized by the Inter Religious Council of Ethiopia, the two-day forum will help come up with solutions for common challenges of peace and development.
Speaking at the event, Kassa Teklebirhan, Minister of Federal Affairs and Pastoral Area Development, said the government has continued conducting reform program to better respond for questions raised by the public.
The public have been taking active part in the reform program carried out so far, he said, further calling on religious institutions to strengthen their role for sustainable peace and development.
Ahunna Eziakonwa, UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative and UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Ethiopia, on her part said that “we can't imagine a prosperous and secure Ethiopia without lasting peace.”
Participants drawn from religious institutions, elders and trade associations are in attendance of the forum.
The consultative forum is being held under the theme, “Inspired by Common Values, We Stand Together for Sustainable Peace and Development of Our Country!” (FBC)
