Ethiopian Olympic stars receive plots, gold

APA-Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Ethiopian Olympic stars, Tirunesh Dibaba and Kenenisa Bekele, received 1,000 sq m plot and 80g of gold each on Friday in their birth place in the Ethiopian town of Asela, 150km east of Addis Ababa.

The awarding ceremony was held in Asela where the two double gold winners of the Beijing Olympic received the gifts from the town administration.

Accordingly, the Asela town administration awarded both athletes for their victory in the Beijing Olympic.

The Ethiopian Television (ETV) reported that the town administration has also decided to name an athletics academy after Tirunesh Dibaba and a poly-technical college after Bekele.

The two athletes are expected to invest for various constructions on these plots.

Both Dibaba and Bekele and other world renowned Ethiopian athletes are from Arsi, in the Asela region of Ethiopia, known for its sorghum production.

The town administration also awarded various prizes to the Beijing team of Ethiopia.

On the occasion, an up-to-the standard hotel constructed in Asela town (Arsi district) by Bekele was inaugurated.

The construction of the four-storey hotel cost over US$ 1 million, which has created job opportunity for over 20 people.

Last week, Bekele announced plans to build a US $ 16 million worth sport centre. He is also building a multi-million dollar five-star hotel in Addis Ababa.
