Keria Ibrahim Elected Speaker of Ethiopian House of Federation
May 6, 2018 - Keria Ibrahim was elected Speaker of the Ethiopian House of Federation (HoF), according the Reporter. Following the appointment of Muferiat Kemal as Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR), HoF voted unanimously voted to make Keira Ibrahim as its Speaker. She is the second woman to hold this title in Ethiopian government.
Prior to Keria, former speaker Yalew Abate held that position for three years.
Keira has served as the Head of Public Service Office of Tigray Regional State before her election as speaker. She is also one of nine members forming the Polit Bureau of the Tigrayan People's Liberation Front (TPLF).
