GERD-New-ManagerAugust 14, 2018 - The Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) has appointed Ephrem Woldekidan as Acting Project Manager of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), assuming the post of Engineer Simegnew Bekele who was found dead in his car at Mesqel Square last month.

CEO of EEP Azeb Asnake in a briefing on Monday said Ephrem’s appointment aims at sustaining the construction of the dam without interruption.

Engineer Simegnew Bekele had been serving as a project Manager of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) since the start of the construction of Africa’s biggest dam in Guba district, Benishangul Gumuz regional state on Blue Nile River.

Police has confirmed that Simegnew was killed by gun bullet in his car. The investigation is still underway.

The dam is being built 20 kilometers south of Sudan and reports reveal that it has reached over 60 percent completion after seven years of construction activity.

Ephrem has been working as Deputy Project Manager of GERD.

According to the CEO, electro-mechanical and civil works of the construction of the dam are in progress despite rumors that work was suspended even before the death of the late project manager.
