Ethiopia Awards GERD Pre-commissioning Work to Chinese Company

EEP-awards-GERD-Project-CGGCFebruary 18, 2019 (Ezega.com) - The Ethiopian government has signed up a contract with a Chinese company to execute the pre-commissioning activities of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) at a cost of 40.1 million US dollars.

The Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) signed the agreement with China Gezhouba Group Co. Ltd (CGGC), which is expected to work aggressively in partnership with other companies in order to complete the project on schedule.

CEO of EEP Dr Abrham Belay and Representative of China Gezhouba Group Co. Ltd Ethiopia, Mr Wang, signed the agreement in Addis Ababa.

During the occassion, Dr Abrham stated that the agreement would have a significant contribution to speed up construction activities of the dam.

Mr Wang on host part promised that his company will work with other companies to finalize the project on time and with the required quality.

EEP has also awarded another piece of the project, the balance of plant contract to Voith Hydro Shanghai. The work to be done includes the electrical, mechanical, and various civil or structural works required to complete the construction of the generating station and spillways of GERD.

CEO of EEP, Dr Abrham and Executive Vice President of Voith Hydro Shanghai, Tang Xu signed the contract which worths 113 million US dollars.
