Ivanka Trump Meets Ethiopian PM Abiy Ahmed, President Sahlework
April 15, 2019 (Ezega.com) -- Ivanka Trump, duaghter and advisor of US President Donald Trump met Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed at his office in Addis Ababa yesterday.
Ivanka Trump along with Mark Green, Administrator of Agency for International Development (USAID), visited Ethiopia and Côte d'Ivoire April 14-17. They are on a tour to promote the Women's Global Development and Prosperity (W-GDP) Initiative, a White House-led, whole-of-Government approach to advance global women's economic empowerment with a goal of reaching 50 million women in developing countries by 2025.
The initiative is aimed at advancing global women’s economic empowerment, it was learned.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Ivanka Trump discussed issues of mutual interests, according to Office of the Prime Minister.
Later, Ivanka Trump also conferred with President Sahlework Zewdie.
President Sahlework briefed Ivanka Trump on work being done to improve the situations of women in higher institutions and the partnership with Civil Society Organizations to maximize the benefits for women.
Ivanka Trump said the U.S government appreciates and supports Ethiopia’s focus on women’s empowerment and participation, and measures taken to promote gender equality, citing the gender parity in the cabinet.
The U.S. will continue supporting for women’s development and participation, she said.
