April 25, 2019 (Ezega.com) -- Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed visited e-commerce giant Alibaba Group in Hangzhou, China, according to the Office of the Prime Minister reported.
He was received by the Chairnman of Alibaba Group, Jack Ma.
According to the Prime Minister's office, PM Abiy Ahmed met with Jack Ma, Chair of the Alibaba Group and discussed the future of disruptive technologies on markets & society. Jack Ma agreed to consider potential investment in Ethiopia that will impact daily lives of the people in the region.
Chairman Jack Ma said the visit is a reflection of the ongoing friendship with China supporting Ethiopia’s development.
The chairman also said that Ethiopia is now a key strategic partner and that he will visit Ethiopia this year.
Jack Ma has been inspired by the ongoing reforms in Ethiopia, according to the Prime Minister's office.
PM Abiy met Jack Ma met in Davos, Switzerland, earlier this year at the World Economic Forum.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is in China to attend the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation conference meeting being held April 25 to 27 in Beijing.
The Prime Minister met Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday and held discussions over a range of bilateral issues and interests.
During the meeting, President Xi announced that China is cancelling interest payments on all loans to Ethiopia accumulated until the end of 2018.
