June 9, 2019 (Ezega.com) -- Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed returned from Sudan yesterday where we was mediating between the military government and opposition leaders.
But he did not return alone. With him, he had 78 surprised Ethiopian prisoners released from prisons in Sudan, according to Office of the Prime Minister.
By now, the Prime Minister has demonstrated his uncanny ability to show the unexpected. Issues like remains of the dead and the release of Ethiopian prisoners in neighboring countries has never been a source of major concern for past Ethiopian rulers. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has changed all that, and to the delight of many.
According to reports, the Government of Ethiopia has been negotiating for their release for a few months.
According to ENA report, the prisoners were released from prisons in Sudan where they were serving sentences up to 20 years for various crimes.
The Prime Minister brought the citizens at the conclusion of his mediation effort in Sudan.
Sudan is currently in political crisis following the overthrow of long-time ruler Omar al-Bashir. The standoff between the military government and the opposition has turned deadly recently. Dozens have been killed and opposition leaders arrested, according to latest reports.
