January 30, 2020 (Ezega.com) -- The council of the Tigray regional state has endorsed the appointment of Fetelework Gebreegziabher as Justice and Good Governance Cluster Head with the rank of deputy president of the regional government. Fetelework Gebreegziabher, also known as Monjorino, is the Deputy Chair of the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF).
Last week, Fetelework was sacked as Minister of Trade and Industry and cabinet member of the federal government on alleged poor performance and insubordination, according to a statement from the ruling Prosperity Party. She also served as organizational affairs head of the now-defunct Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF).
In its 5th tenure and 18th regular session, the council also approved the proposal presented to it to increase the Tigray region’s district administrations from 34 to 57.
The regional government also appointed Dr. Solomon Kidane as head of Tigray Towns Administration Head. Dr. Solomon was another TPLF official who was dismissed as Transport Bureau Head with the rank of deputy mayor of the Addis Ababa city government.
The council also endorsed the appointment of one of the longest-serving officials of the regional government Asmelash Woldesilassie as head of the Tigray Region Inter-Government Office.
In an interview with the Tigray Mass Media Agency, Dr. Solomon said he was dismissed as Transport Bureau Head with the rank of deputy mayor of the Addis Ababa city government just because of his ethnicity. “Ethiopia is falling apart and the people of Tigray and TPLF have been the prime targets of the central government.
In a recent interview with VOA, Fetelework said she was removed as Minister of Trade and Industry and cabinet member due to TPLF’s refusal to join the Prosperity Party (PP) and her political outlook.
Awelu Abdi, a spokesperson of Prosperity Party, earlier said Fetelework was dismissed from her post due to poor performance and for creating obstacles on public services.
“What the PP has said is far from the truth. It used performance issue as a cover-up to the real reason for my removal and neither parliament nor the cabinet evaluated me that way,” she said.
The cabinet's evaluation regarding achievements of the Ministry, including on “Ease of doing business,” has been positive. There has not been criticism on my office’s performance during evaluations at the Council of Ministers level or the House of Peoples Representatives.
Fetelework claimed the Prosperity Party cannot introduce new policy until the next national elections but should implement the policy of EPRDF, a party that won the votes the Ethiopian public during the last elections. Prosperity Party has violated the constitution and is implementing a new policy.
The Ethiopian parliament on Thursday approved the appointment of three ministers nominated by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed.
Accordingly, it approved the appointment of Dr-Ing Getahun Mekuria as Minister of Education, Melaku Alebel as Minister of Trade and Industry, and Dr. Abrham Belay as Minister of Innovation and Technology.
Meanwhile, the Prosperity Party also appointed Zadig Abrha, the former TPLF member and now a staunch critic of the TPLF, as Democracy Building Center Coordinator Cluster Head with a rank of Minister.
