June 3, 2020 (Ezega.com) -- The central committee of the Tigray People Liberation Front (TPLF) announced the decision to conduct elections at the regional level during its meeting held from May 23-30, 2020.
“The Tigray people will not bargain on their rights and there will not be any force on earth that will stop them from exercising their rights,” TPLF’s central committee said in a statement.
TPLF’s statement comes after the Ethiopian ruling Prosperity Party warned that it will take all the necessary measures if the Tigray region conducts elections separately and any attempt to do so will be met with proportional and legal measures.
The statement also comes amid widespread criticism that May 28 should not be celebrated as a victory day as broadcast by various media outlets.
99 percent of the interviewees on various media referred May 28 to as “Black Day” wherein brothers (people of the same country) fought just because they had different ideologies.
TPLF believes that the general election should be conducted with all the necessary precaution safety and health measures against the COVID-19 pandemic and based on the constitution.
The Tigray governing party said it is compulsory to hold elections at regional and national levels as it is the rights of the Ethiopian public founded by the scarifies of thousands of people.
TPLF in its latest statement accused the prosperity party of failing to understand the changing situation of the world due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic and mongering for war.
The governing party of the Tigray region claimed the developmental democracy was the right political ideology in which Ethiopia can deal with the changing world environment.
It said the Prosperity Party is striving to meet its self-interest by ignoring the public demands and the scarifies made for the victory day of May 28.
“The prosperity Party has launched “war” against political groups, which are operating according to the law of the land, by violating the constitution and relevant laws of the country.
The party claimed the governing party wants to stay in power unconstitutionally using the COVID-19 pandemic as an excuse.
“Even though the federal government is trying to violate the rights of the Tigray people, they are preparing to hold elections based on the right bestowed to them to administer them selves.
TPLF said the country is nearing to the verge of falling apart as the federal government continues to breach the constitution and violate the rights of the Ethiopian Nations Nationalities and Peoples to self-administration.
The central committee also called for joint efforts of the Tigray people to defend violence and anti-peace activities that it said are sponsored by the Prosperity Party.
The central committee also called on other political parties that promote self-administration of regional states to work together for a common goals.
