October 13, 2020 (Ezega.com) -- Former Ethiopian Foreign Minister Seyoum Mesfin has accused Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of allowing Eritrean President Isaias Afeworki to “rape Ethiopia” under the guise cooperation.
In an interview with Tigray Mass Media Agency, Seyoum stated the deployment of Eritrean security forces in the Ethiopian soil against the sovereignty of the nation in an attempt to cleanse the legacy of the Tigray People Liberation Front (TPLF).
Seyoum Mesfin who called Abiy Ahmed as “former Ethiopian Prime Minister,” asserting the end of his term in office, said Abiy is illegitimately ruling the country and living up to his personal ego.
He called for establishment of “transitional government” justifying that the government ended its term so did the House of Federation and House of People Representatives as a way out of “deep political crisis Ethiopia is in.”
“Ethiopia is in deep crisis and it stands at crossroads. The Ethiopian people including those who are in power have faced lots of uncertainties. I do not think the leaders know what they are doing and what they are going to do. Ethiopia is in very difficult situation and sensitive times,” Seyoum argued.
He said Abiy has committed treason by allowing Egypt to negotiate on Ethiopia’s natural ownership rights over the Nile waters as opposed to the position of the previous government that the negotiation should not be on water sharing but on the engineering and safety of the dam.
According to the former foreign minister, Abiy was supposed to sign Trump’s initiated agreement that was drafted by Egyptian experts had it not been the cautions Ethiopian scholars wrote to him that the agreement could cede Ethiopia’s legitimate right over the Nile.
A few months ago Seyoum was quoted as saying that the offence allegedly committed by former director general of military conglomerate Major General Kinfe Dagnew for embezzling billions of birr was ‘minor’ as compared to the treason Abiy has made against the people of Ethiopia.
Seyoum claimed the relationship between Ethiopia and Eritrea has not improved except the continued “honeymoon and love affairs” and exchange of visits between the two leaders.
He said there have not been any free movement goods and people between Ethiopia and Eritrea and no one has benefited from the peace agreement the two leaders signed in 2018.
Abiy won the 100th Nobel Prize for the breakthrough he managed to normalize the relations between Eritrea and Ethiopia.
The two leaders, however, created a common enemy and working to cleanse the legacy of the EPRDF particularly that of TPLF in six months, although their goals did not succeed, he added.
Seyoum further criticized the current foreign policy of Ethiopia for lacking a clear roadmap, strategies and policies and failing to meet the needs of the Ethiopian people.
Seyoum also downplayed renovation of the palace and the construction of Entoto Park that have been undertaken by Prime Minister Abiy to beautify Addis Ababa and surrounding areas.
“Ethiopia’s priority should not be the renovation of the palace and construction of leisure parks in Addis Ababa and nearby mount Entoto while more than 30 million Ethiopians are living under the poverty line. “Butter and bread should be the priority to the people of Ethiopia,” he added.
