November 17, 2020 (Ezega.com) -- The Ethiopian Government has blocked bank accounts of 34 enterprises owned by the Tigray People Liberation Front (TPLF) for alleged engagement in multiple crimes including financing criminal activities such as ethnic targeted attacks in different parts of the country.
The Office of the Federal Attorney General also accused the enterprises of trying to destroy the constitutional order by force and financing TPLF sponsored terror activities.
The move by the federal attorney general comes two weeks after war broke out between federal army and troops who are loyal TPLF leaders in Ethiopia’s Tigray region.
The companies are also charged with collaborating and extending financial support for TPLF forces currently fighting the federal army.
Accordingly, the enterprises will not be able to process transactions and make payments including salaries.
The bank accounts freezing of the companies has come into effect based on the office’s criminal codes 882/2007 and 780/2005 and related proclamations.
Among TPLF companies whose bank accounts are blocked are Sur Construction, Gunna Trading, Mesfin Industrial, Selam Bus, Mega Printing, EFFORT, Effort Electrical, Effort Design and Construction, Ezana Mining, MesobeA Building materials, Velocity, Saba Stone, and Sheba Tannery.
Also denied to access their money in any banks in Ethiopia are APF Express Transit Service, Meganet Corporation, Desalegn Cathrina, Sheba Tannery, Almeda Garment, Dedebit Microfinance, Addis Pharmaceuticals, Star Pharmaceutical, Tigray Development, Saba Marble, Adwa Floppy, Tiemit Biruh Tesfa Plastic, Desalegn Anbessa importer of pharmaceuticals, and Maichew Particle Board.
In Ethiopia all the four members of the former ruling coalition Ethiopian Peoples Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), which are united recently as the Prosperity Party, own businesses including Tiret Corporate of Amhara party, Dinsho, Wondo, and EFFORT. Earlier this year, the TPLF refused to join the united party Prosperity Party.
Alem Anteagidew, an official with the federal attorney general office said all the money deposited in all banks by the name of one of the enterprises is blocked.
Meanwhile, rallies condemning the TPLF attack on the Northern Command of the National Defense Forces have continued for the fifth day in different towns including in Gambella town of Gambella Region, Hossana town SNNP Region and Bule Hora town in Oromia Region, among others.
