Ethiopian Supreme Court Judge Resigns
June 18, 2010 -- The Vice President of the Federal Supreme Court Menberetsehay Tadesse resigned from the bench, Capital reports. A couple of other judges from the Federal High Court and First Instance Court also submitted resignations this week.
According to information from the Federal High Court Registrar Office, Yosef Aemero, Bereket Bushra and Ruth Assefa have also submitted their resignation letters.
These judges have been working at the Federal High Court for many years Shiferaw Gizaw, head of Federal Judicial Administration Office said that the resignation came after Menberetsehay decided to continue his academic studies.
In his resignation letter he stated that he would be better off doing some research than on his current post. Shiferaw Gizaw said that the resignations of the judges is normal procedure. He added: “We have even received 10 resignation letters at a time. It’s a judge’s right to change his profession.”
